Whelan’s launch record label

Raglans are the first band to sign to the new label.

Whelans Live in association with MPI have announced the release of Long Live EP by Raglans featuring The Man From Glasgow, the inaugural release on the newly formed Whelan’s Records.

For Whelan’s the setting up of a record label was a logical step as a vast array of talent was passing through their doors without any label backing or funds to help them through the initial stages of a release. To this end, they have ring-fenced a small development fund in order to help such acts by partnering up with MPI for a number of select releases that will specifically cater to the artists needs and help them gain a foothold in what is becoming an increasing competitive industry.

Dave Allen from Whelan’s shared his delight at the venture ‘we felt it was time to expand from the live music scene and invest in Irish talent to help them get their recording career started. It’s an obvious and long anticipated association that we’re very excited about that can also offer the opportunity to showcase talent at the venue while releasing their records both here and abroad’

Raglans are delighted to be the first band on the label and said “to be associated with such a history as that of Whelan’s is fantastic – we’ll be showcasing the EP at Whelan’s on 25 May” along with their first national tour of Ireland. Promoters of the label have said “With their blistering energy, jangling guitars and infectious sing along choruses Raglans are the perfect band to launch this brand new record label”.
