Wallis Bird / New Boots

wallis-bird-new-bootsI can’t wait to see Wallis Bird perform songs from this album live. She’s a spirited and energetic live performer and has included a live song on her album as a teaser, which certainly worked on me. There is the influence of the European hippie in her music and lyrics. The album is full to the brim, each song celebrates something and she has included the lyrics, which I have to admit I still love idea of. Her single “To my Bones” is happy-go-lucky and will actually make you love life to your bones, if only for the duration of the song. Another catchy tune is “LaLaLand” which you will be singing in your head for the rest of the day.

She plays the guitar furiously on this album, which really makes me want to see her live. I suppose that’s what a good album should do. The opening song “Can Opener” has the kind of intro that makes you want to start a mellow head bang and alludes to influences of Jeff Buckley. “Berlin” and “Measuring Cities” make for a nice mellow interlude to an otherwise upbeat album. “Measuring Cities” will break your heart when you listen to the words and you will listen to the words, it’s that type of song. Wallis is touring in Europe all Summer but you can catch her in The Academy on 16 October or in Drogeheda Arts Centre on 17 October.
