Craig Kneale, the drummer with Scottish four piece Twin Atlantic, is taking a break from sitting on a stuffy minibus on a hot day to talk to meg.ie. He’s not really complaining though, the band are embarking on a European tour and all is good in the world. First stop is Belgium and they reach Ireland on April 28th.
The band are gearing up for the release of their second studio album at the end of the month, it’s a record that Kneale is proud of. “We got to work with Gil Norton [producer] who we all really admire and the recording went really well,” he says.
The next few months will be about getting the word out about the album through touring. “At the moment we’re probably best known in Scotland,” explains Kneale. “It’s just about playing and getting a few more people onboard here and there.”
The band formed back in 2007, with Kneale being the last to join. “I blackmailed them into letting me into the band,” he jokes. “We all had similar tastes, Nirvana, Radiohead, that kind of stuff.” Their debut album Vivarium followed in 2009.
The band are aware of how difficult it is to make an impact these days in such a crowded music scene. “We’ll just keep playing, keep working hard, we are never going to be one of those bands who become huge overnight so we’re in it for the long haul.”
For the moment now it’s back on the minibus. A tour to start and an album to sell. Good luck to them.
Twin Atlantic play Academy 2 on Thursday April 28th. Their new album ‘Free’ is released in Ireland on Friday.
