The Trim Hot Air Balloon Fiesta takes place over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend from the 2nd – 5th of April 2010 from 7am to 7pm daily and promises to be a spectacular, action-packed and fun-filled weekend for all the family.
With up to 20 different special shape balloons attending such as Bizzy and Honey, the Boyne Valley Honey Bees will be joined by many larger than life friends including a giant Easter Chick and Easter Bunny, Darth Vader, Thomas the Tank Engine and Sonic the Hedgehog to name but a few. Weather permitting, several of the balloons will fly daily slots between 8am – 9am and again between 6pm – 7pm. The remaining balloons will set up at various times throughout the day and will remain in the Porch Field to entertain the visitors who will be able to get up close and personal with them. Keep an eye on the skies also for surprises such as sky divers dropping in on targets in the field.
Evening entertainment will include a ‘Night Glow’ spectacle on the banks of the Boyne. With some of these giants looming over 140 feet tall – that’s as tall as a 10 storey building! – it’s sure to be a breath taking spectacle.
Family-fun activities such as, Easter Egg Hunts, a Teddy Bear Balloon Flight for charity, Duck racing, face-painting, carousels, story telling, balloon modelling and other amusements, inflatable games and festival style market stalls. Another highlight will be a chance to “Eat, Drink and be Merry” at the towns first ever Medieval Banquet. This event on Easter Sunday will be held in the Trim Castle Hotel to celebrate the Oscar Award Winning Movie Braveheart, most of which was filmed in Trim 16 years ago.
Special guest for the festival is pioneer aviator Brian Jones who piloted the Breitling Orbiter 3 to become the first balloon to fly around the world non-stop taking 19 days, 21 hours, and 55 minutes during which time he and his co-pilot existed within a cramped capsule in often freezing temperatures. Brian is bringing a spectacular replica of this world record setting balloon to Trim.
The Fiesta will also be supporting the Winds of Hope Foundation charity which was established by Brian Jones and his co-pilot Bertrand Picard to build awareness of and combat Noma, a disfiguring gangrene-like disease which afflicts 100,000 young victims every year mainly in the poorest regions of Africa.
