There’s a definite whiff of the 80s off of this one. Trailer Trash Tracys are a London-based band with a penchant for 4AD and shoegazing, along the lines of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. In other words, the late 80s writ large.
It’s rendered very well, with the standard-issue-4AD female vocal adding much to the Baba O’Riley update You Wish You Were Red. And if that sounds like an incongruous set of influences, you’d be right. Dies In 55 and Engelhardt’s Arizona struggle to stay afloat in a sea of 80s synth sounds.
The cleverly titled Los Angered is an improvement, though a good melody along the lines of the Twin Peaks soundtrack struggles to emerge from the production. In a similar vein, Candy Girl leverages the aforementioned influences on a bed of electric guitars to blossom where the other tracks don’t quite.
The whole thing is over in just over half an hour. Trailer Trash Tracys show some promise but never quite outshine their influences.
