In late 2003, yes it’s only been 6 years, Mark Zuckerberg then a student at Harvard University came up with a billion dollar idea. Based on the book The Accidental Billionaire by Ben Mezrich, The Social Network looks at the life of Facebook founder Zuckerberg since that life changing night. The youngest billionaire in history, Zuckerberg has confirmed many friends along the way (500 million give or take) and naturally a few enemies have cropped up too. Over 1/3 of the Irish population have Facebook profiles and of that over 80% log in every day to check up on their ‘friends’ and update their profile with pictures, comments, pings, pokes and whatever other virtual entertainment the vast empire of Facebook now provides.
Fast outweighing Bebo, MySpace and various other social networking sites, Facebook has revolutionised communication as we know it. The Social Network hits Irish cinemas this October, starring Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, Andrew Garfield, Joseph Mazzello and Patrick Mapel as co-founders Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.
