Stradbelly Laughs just got bigger with our very own Tommy Tiernan topping the bill. The irrepressible Meath man will be taking centre stage at this year’s Electric Picnic’s Stradbelly Laughs. Ireland’s best loved and most controversial comic will be making his only Irish festival performance this year on the Stradbally stage. The world’s greatest Improv Troupe – Steve Frost Improv All Stars will also now be providing laughs at Electric Picnic.
Not content with breaking box office records, Tommy recently set a Guinness World Record for the longest stand-up show by an individual comedian (36 hours 15 mins). Tommy’s work is a constant interrogation of big ideas – sex, religion and family – through the lens of his quirks, personal demons and sense of outrage. No other comic can match Tommy for sheer passion, intensity and honesty and to spend time in this man’s company is a treasure to cherish.
Tommy will be joined at Stradbelly Laughs with no less than 3 fellow Perrier Award winners and the best of established and rising stars on the circuit, with acts from afar afield as Canada, Australia, USA, UK and of course Ireland.
Steve Frost Improv All Stars are widely regarded as the world’s greatest Improv troupe. With the stars of Who’s Line Is It Anyway? (Channel 4), the format is simple. The comedians improvise a full set of comedy based on audience suggestion. It’s comedy without a safety net, laugh your ass off guerrilla theatre. The show features five current masters of Improv, notably Stephen Frost, Andy Smart, Steve Steen, Richard Vranch and Ian Coppinger.
Stradbelly Laughs will be provided by Never Mind The Buzzcocks Sean Hughes; Another ‘Perrier’ winner, ex ‘Corky and the Juice Pigs’ guitarist and wonderfully demented Canadian Phil Nichol; Australia’s Brendon Burns; Gavin Webster, Kevin Bridges, Joe Rooney, Eric Lalor and the unrelenting high energy of sketch group Dead Cat Bounce AND a heady mix of superstars, circuits stall warts and the best of emerging talent all under the stewardship of your MCs for the weekend the outrageous I Dare Ya (RTÉ2) duo; Andrew Stanley & Damien Clarke.
