With the countdown well and truly on to OXEGEN 09, what can campers expect at this year’s festival? As we know, Thursday Night Camping returns on 9th July. For an extra 20 euro, fans can be among the first to choose their tent pitch at Punchestown and enjoy some of the exclusive entertainment lined up. The campsites open from 12 noon on Thursday and close at 6pm on Monday 13th July.

Thursday night campers can look forward to some retro delights at The Thursday Night Live Stage. This stage will feature some of the best tribute acts playing a host of hits from your favourite bands including The Stone Roses Experience and Definitely Might Be (Oasis). Smash Hits specialise in classic 90s hits – expect to hear the likes of dance-floor fillers Mr Vain, Jump Around and Free From Desire! Fans can also relive the era of tight trousers and big hair when Snakes Of Desire belt out 80s Rock tunes. ACDC covers band Hells Bells will also be rocking out Punchestown just a few days after the real thing!
The Thursday Night Live Stage will run from 4pm until 2am, Thursday only.
The Xbox Live Stage was a huge success last year with up to 9,000 people in attendance each night in the natural amphitheatre in the Blue Campsite. Boasting a massive 46 sq m, high-quality LED screen, the Xbox Live Stage will become a focal point for festival-goers as it will feature live performances and VJ sets.
In addition, OXEGEN fans can have the ultimate gaming experience playing against each other on the big screen. As before there will be a fantastic selection of titles to choose from as well as movies and TV shows. Proceedings will kick off on Thursday and run each day from 2pm until late.
Headphone Disco will be hosting the biggest Silent Party in Europe this summer, bringing silent pleasure to 2,500 festival goers starting on Thursday night and running every night of the festival.
Headphone Disco is a simple concept with a spectacular affect. Take a tent full of clubbers, arm them all with a set of wireless headphones, have two separate DJ’s broadcast to them live via two dedicated FM channels and watch the utterly surreal spectacle that unfolds.
The Campsite Funfair has been expanded. This year there will be a funfair in each campsite so there’ll be even more opportunity to enjoy the thrills and spills on offer. With slingshots, bumping cars and rodeo bulls, there should be plenty of squeals!
Improvements and General Information about the Campsite Facilities:
There’ll be lots more seating areas around the campsite. Picnic benches will be dotted around the site so that you can take the weight off your feet and sit and natter with your friends. There’ll also be a number of open air barbeque areas for fans to enjoy. But remember, only disposable barbeques are permitted on site and can only be used in the designated BBQ areas.
New phone recharging facilities which means that your mobile should never run out of juice.
Oxegen have teamed up with Lockerhouse to offer improved locker facilities in the campsites this year.
Lockerhouse’s Security Personal Items Lockers will hold small items such as wallets, passport, prescription medication and phones etc. Plus they also have a 12v cigarette style power outlet for you to charge your phone, MP3 player or camera! Bui Bolg, the guys who brought us the giant OXEGEN Stonehenge style entrance arch are back and they’re placing 20 weird and wonderful pop art items throughout the campsite so that you will always be able to use them to help find where your friends are! These will include everything from lemon wedges, skateboards and a space invader!
The FREE hot showers return as well as some other great facilities to ensure OXEGEN’s fans are the best groomed festival-goers this summer. The Pull Parlour salon will provide a full range of beauty treatments. Their pampering expertise extends to haircuts, styling, crazy hair extensions, relaxing massage’s, funky make-up, mad eyelashes, eyebrow shaping, lash tinting and lots more exciting treatments.
Centra will be running their 24hr convenience stores again this year. Whether it is toothpaste, water or paracetamol, festival goers can find everything they need here.
For the third year in a row, we’re delighted to announce that Scouting Ireland will be returning to OXEGEN 2009 to offer their hugely successful Tent Pitching Service.
Festival goers will be able to have their tents pitched and repaired by the highly experienced guys and girls from Scouting Ireland for a small fee which, will be used by charities both in Ireland and abroad. Scouting Ireland hopes to improve on the large amounts of money raised over the last few years. The Scouting Ireland Festival Crew will be on site from Thursday when the campsites open until the end of the festival.
OXEGEN will take place at Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Co Kildare from 10th-12th July 2009 (subject to licence).
