Margaret, played by Sandra Bullock, is a witch from hell boss and Andrew is her secretary who wants to make it in the publishing world. When Margaret is threatened with deportation back to Canada and the prospect of losing her job, she announces that she and Andrew are secretly dating and indeed engaged. Customs are clearly suspicious of the engagement and vow to find out the truth. Meanwhile Margaret and Andrew fly to Alaska to meet Andrew’s family and announce their pending marriage.
Ryan Reynolds is brilliant, he has perfected his facial expressions to optimum hilarity and Sandra Bullock does a good job playing the bitch. Thrown in the mix are Andrew’s 90 year-old quirky grammie played by Rose from the Golden Girls, his romanticist mother played by the ever-lovely Mary Steenburgen and his disapproving father a.k.a. Coach from the hit TV series of the same name. It’s a great line up and a fun, feel-good comedy.
