The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

the-imaginarium-of-doctor-parnassusShrouded in memories of the late Heath Ledger, this movie is already walking a fine line under pressure. Thankfully Ledger is amazing in it and fans of Terry Gilliam won’t be disappointed either. It’s a classic Gilliam is every respect, sporadic storyline, non-conventional female beauties and his obsession with  “midgets”. It’s most certainly the kind of film you will feel strongly about whether you’re a Ledger fan or a Gilliam fan, or both.

They spared no ounce of imagination in the set design as they absorb the audience into Doctor Parnassus’ Imaginarium, it’s magical. As Doctor Parnassus tries to out bet the devil for his daughter’s future, Tony (Ledger) lands in their life. With no memory of his life or how he came to be hanging by the neck under a bridge, Tony joins Dr. Parnassus’ travelling show where they take people into the deepest realms of their imagination by walking through the looking glass.

When Tony first changes to Jude Law it’s a huge disappointment, he doesn’t fit. Johnny Depp and even more so Colin Farrell are wonderful and emulate both the character and the actor perfectly. The story is difficult to follow at the start but the production and acting carries you through. Enjoy this film, in fact… love it.
