The inaugural Dublin Bowie Festival, a two day event takes place this weekend, 09-10 January 2016 and celebrates the legendary musicians work through live music, banter, screenings and much more.
The timing couldn’t be better as Bowie releases his most anticipated album in decades – Blackstar – on Friday 8th; his 69th birthday.
Guest of honour is Gerry Leonard (Bowie’s Musical Director/Guitarist) – who will perform his debut Irish show under his Spooky Ghost moniker on Sunday while also showcasing his Bowie guitar chops on selected tracks with Rebel Rebel (6 piece Irish band playing Bowies greatest hits from Space Oddity to Where Are We Now) on the Saturday night.
Plenty more Bowie related events & screenings on Saturday before the Bowieoke (Bowie Karaoke) kicks off at 7pm with the public displaying their vocal talents (we hope!) before Rebel Rebel hit the main stage with a 2 hour set of all the greatest hits followed by a Thin White Dukes DJ set in the Beer Garden til the wee hours.
Sunday evening will host a special Q&A event with Gerry where all you Bowiephiles can get a rare insight into the Thin White Dukes working methods. They’ll also be showing Live concert DVDs & rare documentaries while hosting a Rare Record Collecters & Memorabilia Market over both days with lots of great Bowie merch to browse through while another highlight will be the Queen Bitch Quiz, where Bowie fans can test their knowledge on everything to do with the man and his music.
Plans are already afoot for next year, when they’ll be celebrating Bowies 70th birthday weekend with an even bigger program of special guests, gigs, screenings and sideshows.
Tickets are €12 a day and available on Tickets.ie
