The ancient story of Irish Whiskey as you’ve never seen it before

Having recently won the double at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for Best Single Malt Irish Whiskey and Best Irish Whiskey, Glendalough Distillery are making some serious waves on the Irish whiskey scene. Now they want to share their roots. This short film tells the epic story of St. Kevin and the Glendalough monastic settlement he came to build. It outlines the history of distillation, a process which first began in Irish monasteries in the 6th century. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Irish monks were the world’s first distillers, monks like Kevin. Check it out, and try to wait until at least lunch time to have a sup. Always drink responsibly, friends.

Glendalough Distillery is five mates from Dublin and Wicklow who aim to recapture the heritage of Irish spirit production (the alcoholic kind). They are Ireland’s first craft distillery and also make a few poitíns and a savage seasonal botanical gin, (really, it’s the stuff of dreams).
