electric picnicAn integral part of the Electric Picnic experience has been the comedy stage and this years’ line-up promises to be the most innovative, exciting and energetic to date. The Stradbelly Laughs comedy stage features no less than three different ‘Perrier’ award winners and the best of established and rising stars on the circuit, with acts from afar afield as Canada, Australia, USA, UK and of course Ireland.

Until recently a sardonic team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks Sean Hughes started his career by becoming the youngest ever winner of the ‘Perrier’ award. Several tours later and two series of Seans Show for Channel 4, Sean diversified into writing, presenting and acting, recently co-starring with Peter Davison in The Last Detective (ITV).

Another ‘Perrier’ winner, ex ‘Corky and the Juice Pigs’ guitarist and wonderfully demented Canadian Phil Nichol delivers a stream of inspired lunacy full of violent, unexpected twists, all delivered at breakneck speed. A pure roller coaster ride, he is occasionally offensive, always foul-mouthed, but above all else, funny.

If you like a little controversy with your comedy then Australia’s Brendon Burns is your man. His electric stage presence and provocative material have taken audiences by storm. Burns stock – in – trade is gratuitous offence, he loves shock tactics and splintering taboos, but it’s all delivered with terrific theatrical brio.

Add into this heady mix of superstars, circuits stall warts, Gavin Webster, Kevin Bridges, Joe Rooney, Eric Lalor and the unrelenting high energy of sketch group Dead Cat Bounce and the best of new and emerging talent all under the stewardship of your MCs for the weekend the outrageous I Dare Ya (RTÉ2) duo; Andrew Stanley & Damien Clarke, it’s the perfect recipe for a weekend of action-packed, fun-filled treats!

With more acts to tickle you pink to be announced in August, including the only Irish festival performance this year by one of the BIGGEST names in Irish comedy, Stradbelly Laughs is certain to keep you smiling all weekend long.
