Sounds of System Breakdown return with the follow-up to their debut album with the EP Colour. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the punk stylings of the Dublin trio, they layer tricky electro over an indie rock foundation. The result is catchy as hell. Their reputation as an excellent live act continues to grow and if you are dropping by Knockanstockan then make sure to check them out.
Colour sees them capitalising on the best aspects of their debut album to create as tight a sound as they’ve ever had. The flashy electro compliments but never overtakes the melody of the song. However, it might sound like the electro is a questionable element within the Sounds of SystemBreakdown mix. It’s not. It’s the life and soul of the SOSB party.
Cosmonaut further highlights this as it thumbs with tribal urgency. Abandoned Buildings, nods to Jonsí’s Go Do. Reversism, is a twisted declaration of intent. As bright as the music is, Rob’s voice and lyrics always seems to hint that something darker is afoot.
The EP is for sale now on their website and they ask you to pay only what you think it is worth. Sounds of System Breakdown are a band who are just warming up to their prime and this excellent offering just confirms that. If you are a person who prides themselves on being ahead of the musical pack then take note: the SOSB train is officially leaving the station, now is the time to get on board.
The EP is available for streaming on their website here.
