Sherlock Holmes

sherlock-holmes-movieSherlock Holmes, the most portrayed movie character ever, gets the Guy Ritchie treatment. So we can expect Vinnie Jones getting in a right strop ‘cause some geezer swiped his jellied eels, innit? Not quite, this is the former Mr Madonna’s first chance to play with a big budget and he handles it wisely, creating a believable 19th century London for Holmes to inhabit.
There are however a few notable Ritchie flourishes, particularly a fight scene that uses ‘The Dubliners’ for the soundtrack. And how about the two stars of the show, Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law? Well they both nail the characters of Holmes and Watson perfectly, riffing off each other like a Victorian Riggs and Murtaugh.
The plot ticks along nicely and we get a few nice ‘elementary my dear Watson’ moments, even if the famous line is never actually uttered. All in all a film definitely worth watching and it shouldn’t be the last you see of this latest incarnation of Baker Street’s finest.
