Scott Pilgrim vs The World, starring Michael Cera as Scott, is one of the summer’s most highly anticipated movies. Cera has progressed from poking the Pillsbury Dough Boy in the tummy in his acting debut back in the nineties, through the multi-award winning comedy Arrested Development where he played the awkward but lovable George Michael Bluth to break the silver screen with such hits as Superbad, Juno and Youth in Revolt.
Scott Pilgrim vs The World hits Irish cinemas at the end of the month and features a real contender for the silver screen’s top fictional bands, Cera’s band Sex Bob-omb. Remember This is Spinal Tap? Here at meg we know only too well how the mediums of movies and music have fought for our attention and our cash. What about Marvin Berry and The Starlighters in Back To The Future, when Marty rocked out with a bit of Van Halen? The movie and music worlds came crashing together like meteors forming some sort of new world. All too early for the 1950s unfortunately, but we appreciated the dance moves Marty.
Another favorite that comes immediately to mind is Sonic Death Monkey from High Fidelity and their surprising version of ‘Let’s get it on’. Didn’t they change their name to Kathleen Turner Overdrive at the end? On a more serious note, The Commitments have to go down as one of the best movie bands of all time.
Here’s some of the latest clips released today from Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Check out the comic book before hand, it’s worth it.
