A one-woman show is no mean feat. Writing and performing in a one-woman show is therefore a doubly impressive achievement.
Aoife Nic brings her production of Flux to 10 Days in Dublin festival after a successful run in The Factory earlier this year. She plays three characters whose lives conjoin in the pursuit of musical stardom and subsequently unravel with tragic consequences.
Aoife flawlessly switches between three very different women, with impeccable accents and a physicality to distinguish each from the other. This skill and characterisation relieves the audience of an hour-long monologue, as a one-woman show might suggest. Thankfully it never strays into this territory.
The intimate setting in an upstairs Georgian room makes the performance almost disturbing, as we watch closely this three-faced goddess fracture and we wonder whether the women are separate entities at all.
Definitely worth a watch.
