Q & A with The Looks

The Looks are four lads from Dublin who, judging by the release of their Foals-esque debut double A-side single, will be ones to watch in 2011. But of course meg.ie like to get in first so we can say I told you so at the (in)appropriate moment. We had a quick chat with the lads.

So you’ve just released your debut singles(s) must be good to get something out there?

It’s great to get the double a-side out there to the masses. It was important for us to get a quality release to the world because we needed to have a frame of reference for people who haven’t seen us live. It has been really well received and it’s nice that other people seem to be as excited as us about our sound.

Any current plans to get into a studio and record a full album?

We hope to have the album recorded by the middle of 2011. At the moment we’re working really hard at writing songs and crafting the sound that’s going to hopefully announce us to everybody.

And any gigs/tours coming up?

We’ve just finished up a lot of the promotion for the single so we’ve been focusing on writing
but we will be playing all around the country before Christmas and we’re going to the UK for some touring early next year.

Are you also working/studying (jaysus I’m fond of my /’s in questions) if so is it hard striking the balance between work and band commitments?

It’s hard work for everybody. Fortunately the guys that are not in work every day do an awful lot of work for the band. They make the artwork and made the Romeo video that you can see on youtube. Their commitment makes it a lot easier for the guys who are working. Also, our manager Bren does an incredible amount of work. His delegation powers are legendary!

Your Myspace lists about a million influences, any particular acts that you love/aspire to?

We have met somewhere in the middle with The Strokes, Kings of Leon and Metronomy. Obviously each guy in the band brings his own influences but our goal is to make interesting songs you can shake your bum to.

What are you guys listening to at the moment?

Lots of Julian Casablancas’ new stuff and some Jamaica and Mark Ronson.
Some of us are hooked on the new Miracle Bell album too.
