Low Down
For many there are two types of festivals: There’s the “Oxegen/Electric Picnic-lets-roll-around-in-the-mud-sleep-in-a-tent-stumble-around-multiple-stages-and-make-various-questionable-decisions” model and then there’s the “Village-fete-auld-lad-with-guitar-on-the-back-of-a-trailor-wait-the-priest-wants-to-say-a-few-words-and-thank-the-wimmin-for-making-the-sandwiches” model.
The town of Oldcastle, County Meath plays host to the event, now in its 13th year. And unlike larger festivals where it’s all ‘VIP area’s’ and ‘Chill Out Zones’ the event usually ends in the early hours with both performers and fans together, and all absolutely locked presumably, in Caffreys Bar.
Caffrey’s Redroom will play host to the more acoustic style bands which include the up and coming ‘John Shelley and the Creatures’ while Crean’s Marquee will be home to the rockier elements, including the Richter Collective’s (great Irish indie label) roster playing throughout Saturday. For those that aren’t all about the music there’ll also be plenty of art workshops and exhibitions going on over the weekend.
