Le Cheile 2011 line up

Oldcastle once again extends it’s welcoming arms to music lovers across the weekend and the best part is there is no camping involved instead there’s lots of cheap b+bs, apartments, hotels etc to rent. This year, Le Cheile is celebrating its 14th year of bringing music and craic to the picturesque town of Oldcastle, nestled in the Loughcrew hills. For those who like the old school festivals, back to the days of Feile in the 90s, this is the place to be. Plenty of wandering and bumping into the headline acts checking out the smaller acts while having a pint in the local.

Bands scheduled over the weekend include Ham Sandwich. The Kells band are receiving huge acclaim for their latest album White Fox and their latest single Ants is all over the wireless. Ham Sandwich has played a few times at Le Cheile over the years, always to a packed house. According to Le Cheile chairman Noel Finnegan ‘It was an easy selection to have them open proceedings on the Friday night.’ Also scheduled to play on the Friday night is Sharon Shannon. ‘We try to get something for everyone, and Oldcastle has a huge tradition of traditional music, and this is another easy choice for us. Sharon Shannon is currently the hottest Traditional act touring the country, and we’d be confident of a sell out that night.’, says Finnegan.

On Saturday night 30th July, Irish band Aslan will play the Marquee at Crean’s Bar. According to Le Cheile organisers there are ongoing discussions with two other acts, which have yet to be confirmed and further news will follow on www.lecheile.com & www.facebook.com/lecheile.

Sunday night will be host to The Hothouse Flowers. ‘Le Cheile has always had a great relationship with the Hothouse Flowers, since they first played here many moons ago. Over the years we have kept in touch and they are always welcome at the festival. A lot of times we tried to have them back, but the lads are always working, and we’re delighted to actually have the chance to confirm this gig with them.’

Monday night’s acts are yet to be confirmed. Bands will be onstage from approx 4pm, leaving plenty of time for any array of acts to entertain the Le Cheile crowd on the final day. Ongoing also, over the course of the weekend, will be the ‘Acoustic Stage’ which was added to the Crean’s Venue last year. This new addition gave over 25 acts the chance to play acoustically on a purpose stage.

Tickets will go on sale on April 9th and all details will be available on www.lecheile.com

Full Line up and Ticket information available at LeCheile.com, and tickets are also on sale at E2 Music Navan and Mullingar, as well as at all gig venues.
