This was the first in the movie series of Harry Potter that really felt like it was aimed at 10 – 16 year olds. “Snogging” and “holding hands” were the order of the day instead of exciting, forbidden magic and evil death eaters. Harry has the hots for Ron’s sister, Hermione has the hots for Ron, Ron has the hots for Hermione but starts dating another girl and casually tossed among their teenage angst, Dumbledore, the wisest of all wizards, is trying to get the message across to Harry that the biggest battle of both their lives is upon them. No pressure though.

It’s a good movie, the effects are great, in fact it felt like the best looking Harry Potter film to date, especially the memory sequences. The acting is wonderful especially Draco and quirky Luna played by talented young Irish star Evanna Lynch. It’s exciting in parts, and when it’s good it’s very, very good (!) but just as you get close to the edge of your seat they start talking about dates for the ball. Nonetheless, I will continue to be excited about Harry Potter movies, I can’t help it but I was a little disappointed by this one. The trailer is epic though. Check it out.
