John Halder is a professor in Germany who, at first, dislikes the Nazi Party, but soon gives in and joins. He moves up the ranks of the Nazis, which obviously puts immense strain on his friendship with his Jewish mates. Eventually he winds up working in a Nazi concentration camp only to discover his friend is being held there. A strong movie, Mortensen manages to portray his character perfectly and it’s good to see him still staying away from the blockbuster roles. The story can be slow at times, but it’s emotional content will keep you going through the lulls. Adapted from the original stage drama by C.P. Taylor. TK
