Festival Checklist 2011

We all get the feeling that we’ve left something behind, especially when there’s so much to remember. There’s that feeling of missed opportunity when you walk past a camp with a proper set up. This doesn’t mean going all out in Millets but a comfortable weekend of festival camping is all about preparation. Here you’ll find the basics and the Super Delux-OCD basics to get you through the weekend in relative comfort.

How to prepare:

Test pitch your tent before you go. Really do this, imagine you get there and one of the poles is broken. Or worse, it’s raining and dark and you have to pitch the tent for the first time.

Go to the festival website and read what’s allowed and what’s not. Most festivals won’t allow glass bottles onsite, things like that.

Pack a full spare set of clothes in the car and leave them there for the drive home. Do bring your toothbrush, even if you don’t get to shower over the 2 or 3 days, clean teeth can make or break a man.

Below you’ll find a list of camping essentials for everybody from the casual camper to the OCD camper.

Which type of camper are you?

The Basic Camper: Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, towels, wellies, toilet roll, beer, rubbish bags.

The Delux Camper: Everything above plus, blow up mattress, pump, blankets, bucket bbq, matches/lighter, torch, fold-up chair, granola bars, water, baby wipes, cash.

The Super Delux Camper: Everything above plus, cooking pot, coffee percolator, cooler filled with ice and food for cooking (can double as a seat), spork, paper plates & cups, bunting to decorate your tent, a wheelbarrow, a gazebo, fold-up table, hand sanitiser.

The Boutique Camper: All of the above, minus the tent. Hire a bell tent for €250, which sleeps 6 people. Or splash out on a Tepee or Yurt.
