Dublin Fringe Review: A Line of O’Kane

Review by Siofra Ni Shluaghadháin

Deirdre (or Dee) O’Kane has become a household fixture for many people, thanks to her role presenting the Six O’Clock show on Virgin Media 1, as well as a wildly successful stint on Dancing with the Stars.

Unfortunately, beyond this, it felt like there was very little of substance in O’Kane’s hour long set. Although her demeanour was on point, and her jokes (mostly) landed, it was evident that her shtick largely relied upon her preaching to the choir. Indeed, the vast majority of the audience on the Wednesday night were people who were familiar with her work, and her Dancing with the Stars journey.

At the end of the day, there was little in the show for the casual viewer, but if her story is one you find interesting, then this may be the show for you.
