David O’Doherty – “Lower your expectations”

I made a trip to the recent Carlsberg Comedy Festival in Iveagh Gardens to see David O’Doherty. I brought a friend of mine who was visiting from Abu Dhabi, thinking the D.O.D would be the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Wrong. We paid €26.50 per ticket. The MC gave a 10 minute intro before support act Wilson Dixon, a Texas cowboy, who sang about the home country. He came out dressed in a cowboy shirt and boots. He was very funny and stayed in character the whole way through, singing about Texan life. He played for about 20 mins.

During the interval the MC, an aussie guy, entertained the crowd with some impromtu comedy while everybody settled in for some D.O.D. He came out and starting telling jokes about lowering your expectations for his gigs. Needless to say we all presumed he was telling jokes. Wrong again. He played 3 songs and was on the stage about 15 minutes before he started talking about wrapping up. His set was 30 minutes long. David O’Doherty wouldn’t pay €26.50 to see David O’Doherty for 30 minutes. I guess he wasn’t joking. “Lower your expectations people”. You said it D.O.D.
