A quirky rom-com with a stand up cast, Crazy, Stupid, Love tells the story of love (the clue is in the title). Based around Cal Weaver (Steve Carell), a middle aged guy who’s stuck in a bit of a rut. That rut gets deeper when his wife (Julianne Moore) tells him she has slept with somebody else and wants a divorce. This sends Cal into a calm state of chaos and he heads to the local nightclub where he meets a different kind of chaos in Jacob (Ryan Gosling). Jacob is suave, sexy and for some reason eager to help Cal rediscover himself (queue Clueless makeover montage).
This is a heart warming film, and very funny in places, if a bit slow to start. It’s down to earth and different from the usual quirky family story, a bit like Little Miss Sunshine. The kind of film your boyfriend will enjoy despite himself. It also boasts a noteworthy line up with Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon and Steve Carell and you might just learn a thing or two about love, aw shucks. [Watch the trailer]
