An evening with Dave Murphy & friends

Dave Murphy takes his gathering of the best of Irish singer/songwriters to Vicar St. for a special night of live music on January 11th 2010. To see; ‘Dave Murphy and Friends’ on a poster outside The International Bar on Dublin’s Wicklow St. during the nineties was a welcome sign for singer/songwriters, from all over Ireland, UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, USA and Australia.

Dave’s singer/songwriter nights originated in The Bailey around 1989 but popular opinion would associate the ‘golden era’ of these gatherings with Tuesdays in the International Bar. Dave is currently hosting such a night (every Tuesday) in Bankers pub, Trinity St. Dublin.

This night is a special thank you to Dave from all the musicians for giving them that start which has been prolific in shaping their careers in the music industry.January 11th will feature Declan O’Rourke, Gemma Hayes, Paddy Casey, Mundy & surprise special guests!

“It is where I learned most about song building and I will always bow to that” -
(Mundy 2009)

“Geldof may not like Mondays, but in the ’90s, I grew very fond of Tuesdays.”
(Luka Bloom 1995)

“Dave murphy understood something very important early on.. That given the right environment and care, promise could become talent, talent could become great great talent, he gave us all the room we needed to grow, I’ve watched some of Irelands best songwriters play their first notes under Dave’s welcome and encouragement..
He’s the natural father of a new wave, in Dublin, and in Ireland, and we thank him and we salute him” – Glen Hansard

“Dave Murphy created a warm little songwriting Womb in an upstairs room off Grafton Street, nurturing and priming many an aspiring talent who’d have had nowhere else to play but the cold city streets. We’d all compete for the best reaction from the crowd each week, and we’d study and learn from each other. Many of the Artistes, who cut their teeth there, are now to be found on the shelves of HMV….
Thanks for the Stage Dave! !” – Damien Dempsey

“For most of us it was the first taste of what it would be like if people actually wanted to hear your own songs….”. – Paddy Casey

Dave Murphy has a strange effect on people. He makes them want to be the best they can be.
His love for music and life is truly beautiful. His sessions were where one could go to “get good” at their craft. We had the seed,he showed us how to plant and nurture it…..Gemma Hayes
