Meg and Alph have spent their lives being taught everything beautiful about humankind, never suspecting the apocalyptic wasteland lying outside their home …Set in a homely comfortable room underground, Meg and Alph are learning. Learning about the genius of humankind. They still aren’t sure what lies outside their home, or when they will be ready to venture out into the world.
They don’t know much about recent history either, or why no one else seems to be around to learn with them. They’re about to find out though: someone’s knocking at the door…
Combining video, movement and immersive drama in the atmospheric surroundings of the Underground, this is a captivating production, featuring an award-winning cast and fresh, imaginative new writing. Written by meg’s own theatre reviewer Clara Kumagi and directed by Bryan Moriarty.
This is Clara’s first play as a writer but she tackles some pretty big questions. “The idea for the play came about from wondering what it would be like to learn about only the good and marvelous of humankind’s history; about knowledge and innocence, essentially,” she says.
The play is run through the 10 Days in Dublin festival, something that Clara is immensily grateful for “The festival has given us an opportunity that we wouldn’t have had otherwise.”
Alpha & Omega runs in the Underground in Kennedy’s. Westland Row until Saturday 16th. Tickets are €5/7.
