Here it is, the favourite albums of the meg writing team 2010.
#1. The National – High Violet
The overwhelming choice by meg writers (for ‘overwhelming’ read the only album that more than two writers agreed on)
“Not an original choice. But un-ignorable. Any doubts were dispelled by an incendiary live show. A collection of songs which on paper shouldn’t instill euphoria but actually do.” K.L
#2 Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Hopefully he won’t storm the meg award ceremony in protest at only coming second. Hard luck Mr West.
“All the bombast and arrogance becomes completely forgivable over the course of 68 incendiary minutes.” K.D
#3 Beach House – Teen Dream
The word of mouth release of the year, to know it is to love it.
“Beach House’s third album was released in January 2010 and even after a year of spectacular releases Teen Dream still holds its own.” R.H
#4 Gorillaz – Plastic Beach
Damon Albarn continues to be the most irritatingly talented man in music.
“Inventive, hook-filled and light of touch. Gorillaz have arguably become the most consistent mainstream band in the world.” K.D
#5 LCD Soundsystem – This is Happening
One of the best live acts in the world delivers another great album, hopefully not his last.
“James Murphy is the Superman of the music world. He’s an ordinary-looking guy who disappears into confined spaces to unleash extraordinary talents.” O.G
Special Mention (or various writers personal favourites)
Arcade Fire, Caribou, Brandon Flowers, Adebisi Shank, Mumford & Sons, Ellie Goulding.
