Hotly tipped as the next big thing to come from up north, they could be the next Flaws, or the next flaws?!
Opening up with the urgent vocals and growling guitars of Oceans, this anthemic track, with harmonies borrowed from Muse via the Acorn sets the tone for an engaging mini-album. The Metal Man tends towards the riffier end of Britpop with warbling Frames style vocals, which continue on The Stuttering, a track measuring up to the likes of Delorentos or Editors (without THAT singer).
Tiger Tail does the epic-acoustic-ballad-building-up-to-a-huge-chorus bit, avoiding lapsing into cliché by the skin of its teeth. It’s slightly hit and miss at times, Louder Than Me is too angst-rock (the bad kind) for these ears, and the singer grates a little at times. But their brand of radio-friendly alternative rock (yes, it still exists) could go far. Can see them pulling crowds at festivals… in 2012.
