Less than a year after closing it’s doors, Smithfield’s Lighthouse Cinema is making a most welcome come back, under the management of Element Pictures. The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan, Chief Executive of The Irish Film Board James Hickey, Head of Film and International Arts for The Arts Council Fionnuala Sweeney and Element Pictures Director Andrew Lowe will be in attendance to launch the re-opening of the Light House Cinema tomorrow morning.
A high court ruling shutting the arthouse cinema down in April 2011, came as a blow to the proposed regeneration of the Smithfield area. A Facebook page was set up at the time in support of the cinema.
