Based on a short film of the same name, 9 is directed by Shane Acker and produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov. Burton’s influence gives the film it’s gritty edge, nobody does weird quite like Tim Burton. The mechanical ragdoll 9 is given life when his maker dies, only to open the window to face a derelict, post-apocalyptic world. He then meets the other numbers and begins a battle to save the world, pretty much.
Visually, it’s one of the best looking CGI films to date, bold statement I know, and although the story line isn’t quite up to the same standard, it’s certainly worth the trip to the cinema. Similar to Wall-E in it’s captivating visuals and similar again in that it may not maintain the attention of the younger viewers. TK
